Sian says: "I am very excited about my new role as Director of Why me? though it's a very different job from my old one! I have spent around thirty years as a Prison Governor, working in all types of prison establishment, and have talked with many hundreds of offenders who really want to turn their lives around. But it's victims of crime whom Why me? wants to get involved with, and I know that for many victims the chance to face the person who hurt them or stole from them, in a Restorative Justice conference, is the chance they've been yearning for. It's a chance to let the offender know the real truth of how they are feeling, the damage caused to their life, the effect on loved ones; and it ends up with the offender having the chance to make a pledge for the future. I am honoured to be able, alongside the Board of Why me? and other partners, to drive forward our campaign for more victims to know about RJ and to get the chance to experience it."

We also have a new address -
Why me? 49-51 East Road, Old Street, London N1 6AH.
Why me? co-sponsors theatre success

Why me? helped to restage a three-week run of the play "The Long Road" at the Soho theatre in November 2008. We sponsored two gala evenings with the intention of launching Why me? to the public and raising funds for the organisation. The response from our invited audience was overwhelmingly positive and many of the guests also enjoyed after-theatre drinks with the playwright, director and cast. The play was written by award-winning playwright Shelagh Stephenson and highlighted the benefits of restorative justice for a family torn apart by knife crime. It saw former Coronation Street actress Denise Black return to the stage as Mary, a mother trying to come to terms with the death of her teenage son after he is stabbed to death by a young girl for refusing to give her a pound. The play was originally conceived as a collaboration between Synergy Theatre Project and The Forgiveness Project.

Why me? hopes to be involved in further revivals of this extremely powerful play, which conveys the healing power of restorative justice.

Why me? launch

The launch of Why me? was held at Waterstones bookshop in Piccadilly, London on Tuesday 13th May 2008.

The event also included the launch of a provocative new book featuring the restorative justice process, "The Damage Done", the life story of former criminal Peter Woolf and his transformation from a life of drugs, crime and violence to that of an honest, law abiding citizen making amends for his past misdeeds. Proceeds of the book have been contributed to Why me.
